Program Summary
Huskie-2-Huskie is a professional networking program by the NIU Alumni Association and the NIU Career Resource Center. It is designed to assist students in exploring various career fields by connecting NIU students to NIU alumni volunteers. Students seek information and advice about their chosen career fields, as well as resume preparation, interviewing techniques, career planning, and job search techniques. Please note that Huskie-2-Huskie is not a job placement service.
Goals
Huskie-2-Huskie's goals are 1) to provide a career planning tool for students who would benefit from professional networking, and 2) to provide an opportunity to alumni who want to give back to NIU by volunteering their time and career expertise as a mentor.
Mentors
Huskie-2-Huskie volunteer mentors are NIU alumni who are willing to donate their time to provide advice and guidance to NIU students. Volunteers set the parameters of their involvement; contact can range from a brief telephone conversation to an on-site visit. They also can specify their preference to be contacted at work or at home and set the maximum number of students who may contact them. Volunteers are asked to be honest and realistic with their feedback. They are not expected to offer employment opportunities.
Corporate Partners
It's no secret that NIU graduates hold top positions in leading corporations worldwide. The Huskie-2-Huskie program tapped into these corporate resources for successful and knowledgeable alumni mentors. Among the program's roster of corporate partners are several Fortune 500 companies, including Walgreens, Baxter International, and Abbott Laboratories. Additional corporations include Zurich, Accenture, Ameritech, Matherlife Ways, Hewitt Associates and Greenbrier & Russell.
