Sign up to receive campus emergency notifications
on your cell phone
In the event of an imminent and verifiable threat to the lives and safety of the general campus population, the NIU Police can send a text message (SMS) notification to your text-enabled cell phone.
NIU Alert text messages will give you a brief description of the situation and tell you what you should do. If you receive an NIU Alert, you should immediately share the information with those around you.
Select “Register for NIU Text Alerts” below to subscribe to the alert service. You must subscribe to the free service in order to receive the alerts*.
Please Note: The NIU Alert system is an extremely reliable emergency text messaging notification system. However, the university cannot ensure that every message sent will be received. Factors that can affect the quality of service and deliverability include Internet capability, signal strength, structures, topography, geography and provider network integrity.
The NIU Alert system is just one component of the university's comprehensive emergency notification system which employs a variety of communication mechanisms to reach as many people in the campus community as possible in the event of an emergency.
