Legal Experience: Intern, Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office in Drug Division (Summer 2009); Domestic Violence Advocate, Safe Passage; Intern, Governor Doyle’s Pardon Advisory Board in Madison, WI; Intern, State’s Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia in Washington D.C.; and Paralegal, corporate field in Des Moines, IA.

What are you currently doing? I was elected President of the Public Interest Law Society and have been planning events and the annual PILS auction with the help of the PILS board.  I am on Law Review, participated in Mock Trial and plan to participate in Moot Court.  I have a graduate assistantship with the Women’s Resource Center for NIU where I am primarily responsible for creating and presenting various types of programming for undergraduate students.

Why did you choose NIU Law? I was immediately attracted to NIU Law because of the many clinical opportunities they offer.  Given my background working with domestic violence survivors, I hope to gain experience working in the domestic violence clinic next spring.  I also felt that NIU Law had a variety of organizations that I could participate in such as the Public Interest Law Society and Mock Trial.

What do you like most about NIU Law? I like that NIU Law’s professors are very approachable and are willing to take the time to answer my questions whether they are about class or the future.   I also appreciate the fact that NIU Law works hard to help me find ways to pay for my tuition by keeping me informed about Graduate or Research Assistantships.  I feel as though I will be in a much better financial position once I graduate because I will not have the pressure of student loans keeping me from pursuing a career in public interest.
