NIU College of Law Honors Alumni for Public Service and Outstanding Career Achievements

DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University College of Law Alumni Council is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2009 Alumni Awards.

Vincent R. Williams (’91) of River Forest , Ill., was named the 2009 Alumnus of the Year in recognition of his outstanding career achievements and dedication to the NIU College of Law. Heather Wier Vaught (’05), of Springfield, Ill., received the Young Alumna Award, which honors NIU College of Law graduates who have outstanding achievements early in their careers and for their devotion to the public good. The Honorable Charles P. Weech (’88) of Marengo, Ill. and Leonardo Castro (’92) of Minnesota both received the Distinguished Service Award for their outstanding career achievements and devotion to the public good. John Riley (’79) of Chicago, Ill., was presented with the Outstanding Service Award, which honors NIU College of Law graduates who have shown extraordinary service to the law school. 

In addition to alumni, Illinois Senator Toi W. Hutchinson, 40th District, was presented with the Public Service Award in recognition of her support to the College and to higher education.  The Council also recognized Interim Dean Malcolm L. Morris for his service as interim dean.
