Wheaton Attorney David H. Keay Receives the 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award for the College of Law

David H. KeayDeKalb, Ill.– Northern Illinois University College of Law is pleased to announce that David H. Keay is the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award for the College of Law from the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association in recognition of his significant professional accomplishments and civic involvement.

A 1980 graduate of the College of Law, Keay is the founding member of the law firm of Keay & Costello, P.C., with its principal offices in Wheaton, Illinois. The firm serves the community in areas of real property, corporate, transactional, and civil litigation. He has developed the firm’s family law practice, which has integrated traditional family life issues with such related issues as corporate, real estate, and estate planning. As an experienced trial attorney, Keay has represented a full range of clients in all aspects of family law practice. Those areas include divorce, legal separation, post decree matters, child support and custody, visitation, paternity, property division, as well as Christian mediation.

"David Keay is the consummate alumnus. He graduated from the College of Law, but never left it.  Over the years he steadfastly has supported the school and its students.  He hires and otherwise assists its graduates to help them become successful members of the profession.  He was a key player in the development of our Alumni Council and is a tireless worker on our Board of Visitors.  I cannot think of anyone more deserving than Dave of the recognition he is now to be given," remarked Malcolm L. Morris, interim dean of the College of Law.

Throughout his distinguished career, Keay has been involved in a number of professional organizations.  He is a member of the Du Page County Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association.  Keay has also previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Christian conciliation service of Northern Illinois. He is currently a chair-qualified arbitrator for the 18th judicial circuit in DuPage County by appointment of the Chief Judge. He is also qualified as a family law mediator, as certified by the Academy of Family Mediators.

An active College of Law alumnus, Keay is a member of the Northern Illinois University College of Law Board of Visitors and is a past president of the College of Law Alumni Council. The College of Law will honor Keay at an open reception from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, in the Thurgood Marshall Gallery in Swen Parson Hall at the NIU-DeKalb campus. The NIU Alumni Association will present Keay and the other recipients with their awards during a private dinner and ceremony that evening.
