Alumna Cherilyn G. Murer Receives the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award

Chicago, Ill. -- Chicago, Ill. -- Northern Illinois University College of Law is pleased to announce that NIU Law Alumna Cherilyn G. Murer is the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association.  The Association’s most prestigious award will be presented to Murer in recognition of her considerable public contributions and professional achievements. 

Murer is founder and president of Murer Consultants, Inc. located in Joliet, IL.  Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Murer Consultants has provided guidance and counsel to more than 500 hospitals and healthcare systems in 42 states; navigating the complex regulatory, strategic and financial issues facing healthcare today.  

In addition to her duties as President and CEO of the consulting firm, Murer holds an appointment on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law in the Department of Family Medicine.  She is Chair of the Northern Illinois Proton Therapy and Research Center and is completing a six year gubernatorial appointment in 2011, following a successful, two-year term as Chair of the Board of Trustees at NIU. 

Murer, a 1978 graduate of College of Law, has served on the NIU Law Board of Visitors since 2002, and in 2003, she was named the NIU Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumni Award recipient for the College of Law.

The NIU Alumni Association will present Murer and the other recipients with their awards during a private dinner and ceremony the evening of Thursday, April 29, 2010.
