Online Journal Submissions Now Open

All currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate members of active Sigma Tau Delta chapters are invited to submit their work to The Sigma Tau Delta Review and The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle. Chapter sponsors, faculty members, alumni (including members of the Alumni Epsilon chapter), and honorary members are not eligible to submit. Contributors who win overall awards will also receive a monetary prize as well as publication.

The Sigma Tau Delta Review is an annual journal of critical writing that publishes critical essays on literature, essays on rhetoric and composition, and essays devoted to pedagogical issues. Manuscripts should not exceed 3000 words, but exceptions may be made for essays of stellar quality. Submission by a single author for each issue of the journal should not exceed two essays. Critical essays must follow the Modern Language Association style guidelines as defined in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (latest edition).

The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle is an annual journal of creative writing that publishes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Submission by a single author for each issue of the journal should not exceed two pieces of prose and four poems. Prose manuscripts should not exceed 2,500 words.

Everyone presenting critical essays or creative works at the convention is strongly urged to read and follow the advice in the following article: Suggestions for Presenting Your Paper at the Convention.”  The article is excerpted with the author’s permission from LINDA K. KERBER, “Conference Rules, Part 2,”  The Chronicle of Higher Education, 21 March 2008: 1.

Convention Registration

The advance registration deadline is March 13th. After this date, registrants must register onsite. The registration fee is $80.00 for everyone. Save time and register online.

Faculty Session Moderators and Session Chairs Needed

We are still in need of faculty to serve as session moderators. If you plan to attend the Minneapolis convention, please volunteer to chair or moderate a session or two by emailing Convention Chair, Gloria Hochstein at convention09@uwec.edu.

A few more session chairs are also needed. Students serve as session chairs—most of which also have faculty moderators.  Chairs are responsible for ensuring that all presenters have arrived, introducing the speakers in order, and turning the floor over to the moderator after all presentations are complete.  If you are willing to serve as a chair or you know of another attendee who would be willing, please contact the Convention Chair, Gloria Hochstein, at convention09@uwec.edu.

Scholarships for Study Programs

Applications due March 30
Whether you are planning a Study Abroad semester or a Summer Study program, here are two scholarship opportunities you don’t want to miss!

The Sigma Tau Delta Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded to active undergraduate members studying for an academic term or year in a certified undergraduate program outside of the country in which their chapter is located. This scholarship is announced twice a year. Applications received by March 30 will be considered for the May announcement and can be used for programs beginning summer 2009 through spring 2010. See application for more information.

Active undergraduate members are also eligible for the Sigma Tau Delta Summer Program Scholarship. The scholarship must be applied to a 2009 summer program in the country where their chapter is located. It cannot be used toward a regular summer session at the student's home institution. See application for more information.

Graduation Merchandise Orders

Order by April 15th to ensure delivery by May 1st!
Each spring, the Central Office mails more than 4,500 honor cords/stoles and 5,500 member certificates. While every chapter is special to us, we can't possibly accommodate every rush order! PLEASE PLAN AHEAD—it will take the Central Office up to 3 weeks to process and ship your order.

To receive merchandise and new member certificates within three weeks, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Send one check, payable to "Sigma Tau Delta."
  2. Do not send individual student checks; there is an additional delay of 2 to 3 more weeks for student checks to clear.
  3. Allow more time for your school to process payment if you are paying by college or university check. (Some schools take up to three weeks to issue a check.)

Note: express or overnight delivery is not available under any circumstances.
