Publications Update

Journal Submissions Due April 30

All currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate members of active Sigma Tau Delta chapters are invited to submit their work to The Sigma Tau Delta Review and The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle. Chapter sponsors, faculty members, alumni (including members of the Alumni Epsilon chapter), and honorary members, are not eligible to submit. Contributors who win overall awards will also receive a monetary prize as well as publication.

The Sigma Tau Delta Review is an annual journal of critical writing that publishes critical essays on literature, essays on rhetoric and composition, and essays devoted to pedagogical issues.

The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle is an annual journal of creative writing that publishes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.

View complete guidelines for online journal submissions. Note: Journal submissions must be submitted online. Email/postal mail submissions are no longer accepted.

Look for Publications in the Mail

The latest issues of The Sigma Tau Delta Review, The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle, and The Sigma Tau Delta Newsletter will be delivered to chapter sponsors starting the week of April 13th.

All first-year members (those enrolled in spring and fall 2008) receive a one-year subscription to these annual Sigma Tau Delta publications. Chapter sponsors should refer to their Write Away! membership directory for a list of chapter members enrolled in 2008.

2009 Convention Wrap-Up

This year's convention was an overwhelming success with a record 839 registrants, including 666 who presented, chaired, or moderated.

In addition to keynote sessions by Sigma Tau Delta speakers--Alexandra Fuller, Neil Gaiman, and Mike Perry--and NEHS speaker Chris Crutcher, there were 135 sessions of critical essays or creative works, 17 panels, and 11 workshops, readings, and special presentations. $5,425 was awarded in prizes for submitted works.

Mark your calendars for the 2010 International Convention, March 17 - 20th, in St. Louis, Missouri.

National Service Project: Final Book Drive Results

The Better World Books (BWB) National Service Project Book Drive that ended January 31, 2009, collected more than 5,671 books from 37 participating Sigma Tau Delta chapters.

The Kappa Pi chapter at Alvernia University won top honors with 1,772 acceptable books. BWB recognized and awarded the chapter $831 for books collected, plus an additional $100 for first place, at the 2009 Convention Awards Ceremony.

Sigma Tau Delta has partnered with Better World Books to provide an ongoing opportunity for chapters to participate in biannual book drives running February 1st - July 31st and August 1st - January 31st. Participating chapters will have the opportunity to:

  • Collect books to benefit one of five literacy charities; and
  • Earn additional cash for chapter use (.50 per acceptable book, $1.00 per acceptable prescreened book, $1.25 per acceptable book when more than 1,000 acceptable books are collected).

Student members who actively participate in two successive BWB chapter book drives will also be eligible to apply for the 2010 Better World Books Summer Internship, located in Atlanta.

Email sigmataudelta@betterworldbooks.com to start your chapter's book drive.

Graduation Merchandise Orders

Order by April 15th to ensure delivery by May 1st!
Each spring, the Central Office mails more than 4,500 honor cords/stoles and 5,500 member certificates. While every chapter is special to us, we cannot possibly accommodate every rush order! PLEASE PLAN AHEAD—it will take the Central Office up to 3 weeks to process and ship your order.

To receive merchandise and new member certificates within three weeks, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Send one check, payable to "Sigma Tau Delta."
  2. Do not send individual student checks; there is an additional delay of 2 to 3 more weeks for student checks to clear.
  3. Allow more time for your school to process payment if you are paying by college or university check. (Some schools take up to three weeks to issue a check.)

Note: express or overnight delivery is not available under any circumstances.
