Journal Submissions Deadline Extended

The deadline for the 2010 journal submissions has been extended through May 8, 2009.

View complete guidelines for online journal submissions. Note: Journal submissions must be submitted online. Email/postal mail submissions are no longer accepted.

The Sigma Tau Delta Journals and Newsletter Delivery

The latest issues of The Sigma Tau Delta Review, The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle, and The Sigma Tau Delta Newsletter were delivered to Chapter Sponsors the week of April 13th.

These publications should be distributed to all first-year members (those enrolled in spring and fall 2008). Chapter sponsors can refer to their Write Away! membership directory for a list of chapter members enrolled in 2008.

View The Sigma Tau Delta Newsletter online.

Order additional copies of the Sigma Tau Delta journals
at $10.00 per subscription.

Regional Newsletters

The six regional newsletters, written by and for student members, will be posted on the www.english.org website beginning May 5th.

Write Away! Updates and Tips

Update

Retrieve your username. Chapter Sponsors, did you forget your username? Now you can retrieve it through a link on the Write Away! login page.

Tips - to do before the semester ends

Complete the "Chapter Officers" section. Starting Fall 2009, Write Away! will send eNews and other important news items to chapter officers who are listed in Write Away!

Sponsors, use Write Away! email to keep in touch with your members over the summer. Be sure to update email addresses before the end of the spring semester.

Mark graduating members "inactive." They will remain in your database, and you can still contact them through Write Away! email.

Chapter Annual Report

The Annual Chapter Report Form has been posted on the website. Although the deadline for this report is September 30, we strongly suggest that all chapters complete their report before the end of this semester while all of the relevant information is still fresh. The information in these reports is crucial to the Society's ability to meet members' needs.

2010 Common Reader

The 2010 Common Reader is Song for Night, by Chris Abani. Copies may be purchased from Better World Books.

Meet the New Student Leaders

At the March International Convention, students elected a Student Representative (SR) and an Associate Student Representative (ASR) for each of the six regions. Read their personal introductions, along with those of our 2009-10 Student Advisors (SAs) Stephanie Schiefelbein and Lauren Brandeberry.

Better World Books Book Drives

Sigma Tau Delta has partnered with Better World Books (BWB) to provide an ongoing opportunity for chapters to participate in biannual book drives. The current book drive period runs February 1st through July 31st. Participating chapters will have the opportunity to:

  • Collect books to benefit one of five literacy charities; and
  • Earn additional cash for chapter use (.50 per acceptable book, $1.00 per acceptable prescreened book, $1.25 per acceptable book when more than 1,000 acceptable books are collected).

Student members who actively participate in two successful BWB chapter book drives will also be eligible to apply for the 2010 Better World Books Summer Internship, located in Atlanta.

Contact sigmataudelta@betterworldbooks.com to start your chapter's book drive.

Penguin Group (USA) Summer Internship

Congratulations to Alison Colman (Chi Lambda chapter, Elmhurst College), the recipient of the Sigma Tau Delta/Penguin Group (USA) Summer 2009 Internship!

The response to this new position was unprecedented. On behalf of Sigma Tau Delta and the Penguin Group (USA), we wish to express our sincere appreciation to each of the 89 applicants.
