Convention Update
The Sigma Tau Delta 2013 International Convention will be held March 20-23 at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower.
Early Registration Deadline is February 5
Everyone attending the convention, including presenters and panelists, must register for the convention. Those registering by February 5 will receive an early registration discount. Those registering after the early registration deadline will pay the full fee. See Convention Registration for details.
URGENT: Hotel Group Rate Expires February 19
To receive Sigma Tau Delta's special convention group rate, you MUST make your reservations before February 19. Don't delay—the number of rooms at the reduced rate is limited. After February 19, rooms will be offered based on availability at prevailing hotel rates, which are considerably higher than our special group rate. Go to Hotel Information and make your reservations today!
Reduce Convention Expenses by Sharing a Hotel Room
Convention roommates are a great way to save money and make lasting friendships. Contact the Central Office by February 19 for help finding other Sigma Tau Deltans interested in sharing a room and cutting costs.

Paper Presentations and Roundtable Discussions
A tentative list of paper presentations and roundtable discussions is now posted at www.englishconvention.org, and by now all submitters should have received submission decisions by email. A schedule of sessions will be posted in early February.
Session Moderators Needed
We are in need of Sponsors and other faculty members to serve as session moderators. If you are planning to attend the convention in Portland, please volunteer to moderate a session or two by emailing Convention Chair, Gloria Hochstein, at englishconvention@niu.edu.
Program Events
Plan to arrive on Wednesday, March 20, to take full advantage of the convention. Wednesday evening's opening ceremony, entertainment, and readings will provide a stimulating start to the convention, and Thursday morning's workshops are not to be missed.
Preview: Four-Day Convention Schedule
Student Leadership Opportunities
Sigma Tau Delta's student and alumni leaders are chosen at the international convention. These positions provide excellent opportunities for students to network, gain valuable leadership skills, and learn about how Sigma Tau Delta functions at the regional, national, and international levels. Six Student Representatives and six Associate Student Representatives are elected during Regional caucuses; one Alumni Representative and one Associate Alumni Representative are chosen during the Alumni caucus. These are excellent opportunities to serve, to polish leadership skills, and to work on the "inside" of our large, international Society. These are one-year positions.
On the Board of Directors as actual voting members, are two Student Advisors, appointed by the Board. These students attend fall and spring Board meetings (and the convention), and work closely with all the Student Representatives and Regents. Truly committed, organized, creative, and dependable members are invited to apply, by February 15, for one of the two Student Advisor positions. Applicants must be willing to make a two-year commitment to serve, if selected.
