Scholarships, Awards, and Project Grants

Annually, Sigma Tau Delta offers a variety of scholarships and academic awards valued at up to $5,000 each. Because these opportunities are offered exclusively to Sigma Tau Delta members, applicants who take the time to submit a carefully prepared application have a significantly increased chance of receiving an award.

Scholarships and Academic Awards
Application Deadline: November 11

Sigma Tau Delta uses STARS (Scholarship Tracking and Review System) to simplify and streamline the online submission process for scholarships and academic awards. STARS also alerts students to all application opportunities available to them, increasing their chances of receiving funding. View scholarships and the STARS application process.

Individual Awards, Chapter Awards, and Project Grants
Application Deadline: November 4

Individual Awards are offered for leadership and personal websites or blogs. Chapter Awards include outstanding chapters, Sponsors, literary arts journals, and blogs or websites. Chapters also may apply for Project Grants of up to $500.

2014 International Convention: Submissions are Open

Submission Deadline: October 28
Submissions are now being accepted for Sigma Tau Delta's 2014 International Convention, February 26-March 1 in Savannah, GA. Featured speakers include: Alison Bechdel, Justin Torres, Daniel Mendelsohn, and Gin Phillips.

Over $10,000 will be awarded for student works presented at the convention. An exciting new addition this year is a submission category for posters for Graphic Fiction/Graphic Memoir. View the convention website for the call for submissions and other convention information.

A month early: Our 2014 Convention AND THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE are nearly a month earlier than usual. Please note the important dates listed on the convention home page, and plan now to join over 1,000 Sigma Tau Deltans in beautiful, historic Savannah as we celebrate 90 years of recognizing excellence in English.

Historic Chapter Photos Contest

Deadline: Friday, November 4
Post historic chapter pictures to the Sigma Tau Delta History Pinterest Board and you could win a prize!

To help celebrate Sigma Tau Delta's 90th anniversary, chapters are invited to share images of their most interesting historic photos and archived items. Up to three $50 gift certificates for Sigma Tau Delta merchandise will be awarded for best overall photo, most interesting archive item, and best overall photo before 1950.

For details, visit the Historic Chapter Photos Contest page.

Better World Books Campus Book Drive

Sigma Tau Delta's National Service Partner, Better World Books (BWB), just made it even easier to run a super-successful book drive this fall—AND to enter for a chance to win a pizza party for your chapter and a $50 monetary donation made on your behalf to a local food pantry! Visit BWB's BRAND NEW Campus Book Drive Resource Center by Tuesday, October 15 to SIGN UP to enter the drawing. Collecting books on your campus raises money for your chapter, helps find new homes for used books, supports literacy nonprofits, and keeps books out of landfills.

The winning chapter will be asked to post chapter photos of the pizza party to one of the Sigma Tau Delta Regional Facebook Groups. You can also blog about your experience running a book drive! Even better: the winning chapter chooses a local food pantry—right in your own community—to receive a $50 donation from BWB made on your behalf. Thus you get to eat AND help make a difference in the lives of others.

Officer's Corner: Tips and Tricks

Want to Present at the 2014 Convention?

If you are planning to submit a paper for presentation, start immediately by reading Hints for Successful Paper Submissions.

Because you can submit only ONE paper (unless the second one is on the Common Reader or the 90th anniversary theme of "1924") you need to make certain that you submit your best work. That means you must select well and revise extensively.
