Journal Submissions Guidelines
All currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate members of active Sigma Tau Delta chapters are invited to submit their work to The Sigma Tau Delta Review and The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle. Chapter sponsors, faculty members, alumni (including members of the Alumni Epsilon chapter), and honorary members are not eligible to submit.
The Sigma Tau Delta Review is an annual journal of critical writing that publishes critical essays on literature, essays on rhetoric and composition, and essays devoted to pedagogical issues. Manuscripts should not exceed 3,000 words, but exceptions may be made for essays of stellar quality. Submission by a single author for each issue of the journal should not exceed two essays. Critical essays must follow the Modern Language Association style guidelines as defined in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (latest edition).
The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle is an annual journal of creative writing that publishes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Submission by a single author for each issue of the journal should not exceed two pieces of prose and four poems. Prose manuscripts should not exceed 2,500 words.
Sigma Tau Delta members must follow these guidelines for Journal submissions:
- Submit writing only if you are an undergraduate or graduate member of an active Sigma Tau Delta chapter. Chapter sponsors, faculty members, alumni (including members of the Alumni Epsilon chapter), and honorary members are not eligible to submit.
Submissions must be in a standard format:
- For The Sigma Tau Delta Review: Times font, 12 point, double spaced, and 1 inch margins on all sides, free of typographical and grammatical errors. Essays must follow the Modern Language Association style guidelines as defined in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (latest edition). Titles should be no more than four spaces down from the top and centered (avoid fancy fonts, bold letters, or underlining). Each submission should be attached as a separate file not to exceed two submissions (each not over 3,000 words).
- For The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle: Times font, 12 point, and 1 inch margins on all sides, free of typographical and grammatical errors. As much as is possible, double space creative work. Titles should be no more than four spaces down from the top and centered (avoid fancy fonts, bold letters, or underlining). Each submission should be attached as a separate file not to exceed two pieces of prose and four poems. Prose manuscripts should not exceed 2,500 words.
- Contributors will be required to include an abstract for each submission, not to exceed 750 characters or roughly four sentences.
- Contributors must not identify themselves in any way on any page of text submitted.
- Because of the high volume of submissions, it is the author’s responsibility to make sure that all the forms are filled out, the abstract complete, and the essay submitted properly.
- Contributors will receive email notification by August of acceptance or denial. Keep your Sigma Tau Delta contact information updated through the website in order to receive these emails. The publications are available usually by the following April.
Contributors who win overall awards will also receive a monetary prize as well as publication; contributors whose writing has been accepted will be invited to read at The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle annual reading at the convention in the Spring.
