Dolly Parton's Imagination Library: Affiliate Service Project Pilot Internship

Join our great team! This is not your average internship; you will be spearheading a key project that benefits Sigma Tau Delta and The Dollywood Foundation. Intern will explore and design how local Sigma Tau Delta chapters and members get directly involved with Imagination Library Affiliates. Wonderful opportunity for someone with project management interest and a desire to help Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programs reach more children!

  • Business Case Creation – Explain why this project is necessary. Describe the situation and the opportunity service project will impact. Analyze and develop shortlisted options. Evaluate the options. Implementation strategy. Provide Recommendations.
  • Produce Feasibility Study – Research reason for this project and determine success metrics
  • Develop a Project Plan – How project will be structured and executed. Creation of an actionable, systematic, and logical plan. To Include:
    • Project goals
    • Specific tasks and deliverables
    • Identification of project stakeholders
    • Resource plan
    • Project schedule
    • Project budget
  • Work effectively as a member of the Foundation team, completing tasks as required whether alone or in close collaboration with others.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to grow awareness of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library through Service Opportunity.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned at any time based on the Foundation’s needs.

Note: A Confidential Agreement will be required.

  • Strong writing skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Flexible and adaptable as changes in schedule and spontaneous ideas emerge
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with others, remotely
  • Comfortable approaching stakeholders, asking questions, and quickly gathering accurate responses
  • Demonstrated experience in project ideation and project management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Sigma Tau Delta organization and chapter structure
  • Interest in childhood literacy, inspiring children to fall in love with reading and books!

Candidate Membership Eligibility

Active Sigma Tau Delta undergraduate and graduate student members in good standing during the application period and members of chapters located within the 50 United States are eligible to apply. Members who have or will be graduating during the 2021 fall semester are also eligible to apply.

Time Commitment and Stipends

The Internship will be remote. Hours will be flexible and work around finals and school schedule. On average, the intern should expect to work ten hours per week. 

In return, the intern will receive the following stipends:

The Dollywood Foundation will award the intern a $750 per month stipend.

An additional $800 stipend will be awarded by Sigma Tau Delta and distributed according to the following schedule:

  • February 28 - $200
  • March 31 - $200
  • April 30 - $200
  • May 31 - $200

  3. Documentation of project management experience. Can be in the form of a video or document, presentation, other… explaining project, to include a detailed explanation of your role, process, and outcomes.

  4. Writing Sample using the following writing prompt.

    Imagine you are writing a blog post for our website and in no more than 500 words answer the following question: What are the most important/significant idea or elements of PBS report?

  5. Business/Project Ideation Sample:
    The business case captures the reasoning for initiating a project or task. It is often presented in a well-structured written document.

Review Process

Applications will be submitted through AwardSpring, and vetted for membership before being sent to The Dollywood Foundation for their review and selection.

Members of The Dollywood Foundation Leadership Team will review and interview the candidates who make it to the final round.

Blog Requirement

Following the internship, the internship recipient is required to submit an article (400-600 words) for WordybyNature, the official Society blog, sharing such things as how the internship contributed to their professional growth or field of study; its impact on their future career plans; and the importance of the funding to the internship experience.
