Student Leadership Award

The Student Leadership Award is presented to students for outstanding service to Sigma Tau Delta at the chapter level. Nominees for the award will demonstrate their individual commitment to the ideals of Sigma Tau Delta and their ability to promote those ideals through a leadership role in their local chapters.

Students and Advisors are invited to submit nominations. No student may receive this award more than once. The recipient of the award will receive a check for $250 and a plaque.

Eligibility

  1. The student nominee must be a current member in good standing of Sigma Tau Delta, or have been a member in good standing within the past six months. Members who graduated in the previous fall term or who will graduate in spring or summer are eligible for the award.
  2. Alumni members are not eligible for this award.
  3. The student must not have received the award previously.
  4. The student must be nominated by a Chapter Advisor or by a member in good standing from their chapter.

Judging of the Nominees

  1. The Central Office will verify active chapter status and member status.
  2. Judges will be non-student members of the Service Committee.
  3. Those students not selected for the award are eligible for nomination in subsequent years of service.
  4. The winner of the award will be announced on the Sigma Tau Delta website and at the next annual convention.

Nomination Procedures

  1. One Advisor or chapter member may nominate one member, per chapter, per year by emailing that member's name and email address to sigmatdapply@niu.edu. By emailing the nomination, the Chapter Advisor or member is endorsing the nomination.
  2. In the subject line, type STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
  3. The nominated student will then be notified of the nomination and asked to write a 500 word letter laying out their qualifications for the award, including the following:
    1. The nominee's contribution to the local chapter ideals of Sigma Tau Delta.
    2. Length and dates of nominee's service as officer/member of Sigma Tau Delta.
    3. Name and contact information of the student submitting the letter (mail and email addresses, phone numbers)
    4. Name and contact information of the Chapter Advisor(s) (mail and email addresses, phone numbers).
  4. The student will send that letter as a Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF file to sigmatdapply@niu.edu titled Student Leadership first followed by the abbreviated name of their school. Example: Student Leadership NIU
  5. Advisors or members must nominate members by the Spring Awards Cycle deadline. Letters from nominees must be completed and received within one week following the Spring Awards Cycle deadline. No late nominations or letters will be accepted.
